By Michael Fisher One of County Monaghan’s oldest residents Pat Treanor from Doogary in Tydavnet passed away peacefully on Saturday at his first and only home in his 104th year. Pat had lived through two World Wars, the troubles in the North and many other important world events. Michael Fisher Art student Frances Treanor from Drumdart, Tydavnet, who won this year’s Texaco Children’s Art Competition, will travel to Japan later this month to see her stunning self portrait exhibited in Tokyo. At the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin last Thursday, 18 year-old Frances was one of five Monaghan entrants to collect their prizes. By Veronica Corr The community of Tydavnet scooped the top prize at the 12th annual Irish Public Bodies (IPB) Co-operation Ireland Pride of Place Awards which were announced in Treacy’s West County Hotel, Ennis, Co. Clare on Saturday last. Clones and Corduff Raferagh also won awards. There was an attendance of 800—1,000 people from across the 32 counties present. The Police Service of Northern Ireland have said that investigations are likely to continue for some time into the death on New Year’s Eve of Tydavnet teenager Jason McGovern. The nineteen-year-old student was found dead at the home of a friend in Emyvale after being the victim of two separate assaults when earlier socialising in Omagh, Co Tyrone. The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed yesterday that they have launched a murder inquiry into the death of a 19-year-old Co Monaghan man believed to have been assaulted twice in Omagh on New Year’s Eve.
