A crowd of people turned out in Emyvale last Saturday evening in honour of and to congratulate local woman and Triple World Champion Louise McKenna. Louise won her impressive title at the World Single Lift Championships in Telford, England two weeks ago and she paraded her three trophies through the village last weekend. Louise, who is daughter of Antoinette and Martin McKenna, was one of 100 lifters (50 men and 50 women) from the Irish Drug Free Powerlifting Association who represented Ireland at the three-day event. AN EMYVALE MAN who reached from a passing car to push a young teenager off his bicycle last summer was given sentences amounting to 10 months’ in prison when he appeared at Monaghan District Court on Monday last. Michael Fisher A GAA footballer from County Monaghan, Thomas Connolly from Latton, has received a two-year ban following an anti-doping violation. His case was reviewed by the GAA’s Anti-Doping Hearings Committee. It took the view that the violation that occurred earlier this year was not intentional and therefore not subject to the standard four-year suspension.
