Another year has come and gone and with it another very successful Killylough Annual 40km/100km Charity Cycle in aid of St Dympna’s Faith & Light, Tydavnet. A Scotstown man convicted in his absence at last week’s Monaghan District Court of criminal damage and assault offences was given custodial sentences when he was brought before Monday’s sittings of the court on foot of a bench warrant. The participation of James McCarra who took part in the Easter 1916 Rising was marked at a wreath-laying ceremony in Urbleshanny graveyard, Scotstown, on Friday January 1st 2016. The wreath-laying was organised by the Margaret Skinnider Appreciation Society (MSAS) in conjunction with their Centenary 1916 programme of events. Master of ceremonies was Ms Josephine O’Hagan Cathaoirleach of MSAS. A 43-year-old man from Scotstown, Co Monaghan who is facing a charge alleging membership of the IRA was released on bail at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin on Tuesday. Jim Smyth, of Aghalissabeagh, was arrested in Carrickmacross last month by members of the Special Detective Unit as part of ongoing investigations into dissident republican activity.
