By Cianna McNally The newly renovated Model School in Monaghan reopened its doors to 137 pupils – including 22 new junior infants – on Monday. The renovation work, which began in March last year, has resulted in three new classrooms, a general purpose room and a library. The older part of the building has been restored to its original state. BAIL REFUSED TO MAN CHARGED WITH ARSON ATTACK ON MONAGHAN GARDA STATION

Bail was refused at a special District Court sitting at the weekend to a man who has been charged in connection with an arson attack on the Monaghan Garda Station at the Plantation Road in Monaghan Town. A motor vehicle was driven through the barrier at the front of the station around 7 pm on Saturday evening last. The vehicle was driven to the public entranceway and subsequently set on fire. Anyone passing the Coolshannagh roundabout recently can’t help but to have noticed construction works on the triangle of ground opposite Grahams’, enclosed by the Armagh road, the Bypass and the Ulster Canal Greenway. DEATH OF HUGH MCNALLY  CLONES RD, MONAGHAN

Hugh (Hughie) McNally, 81, Clones Road, Monaghan passed away peacefully early Thursday 6th August in Drumbear Nursing home following a long illness with Alzheimers. Burial occurred Saturday 8th in the Old Cemetery, Latlurcan. Hugh was born in Drumacrutton in 1934 to parents Hugh and Mary (neé Hughes). He had 5 siblings, Bridget, Eileen and entrepreneurial brothers Dan, Eddie and Charlie. Having worked in Kerr Brothers of Corby Rock followed by a period in Grahams Furniture factory, Hugh and his lifelong friend and business partner Kevin Finlay set up McNally & Finlay Ltd ...
