The pesticide MCPA has been detected at levels above the permitted amount in the public drinking water supplies in Glaslough and Emyvale, Co Monaghan for the second time in two months, Irish Water said this week. It was stated in an Irish Water media release: MCPA is a commonly used herbicide present in many products used to control thistles, docks and rushes. Like many other organisations, the Mens Sheds in County Monaghan were forced to close temporarily by the Covid crisis. However, having weathered the initial storm, the Sheds are reopening their centres. The Mens Sheds county coordinator, Peter Cavanagh, says “our sheds are open for social activities and operating on the basis of limited numbers at present. Monaghan Co Council spent almost €1.8 million in housing adaption grants to accommodate the needs of elderly and disabled people in 2020 but still had to close the scheme by June because it became oversubscribed.
