ULSTER BANK CLOSURES WOULD HAVE SEVERE IMPACT ON CAVAN/MONAGHAN, FF TD WARNS

Reports that the closure of Ulster Bank operations in the Republic of Ireland was being considered have generated alarm this week, with the Financial Services Union calling on NatWest to provide clarity on the issue and reassurance to staff. The issue was raised in the Dáil by Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith, who told Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe TD that closures of Ulster Bank branches would have a particularly severe impact in his home constituency. Ulster Bank closed a number of its local branches in recent years but it retains a branch in Monaghan Town. It also operates branches in Cavan Town, Ballyjamesduff and Ballyconnell.
