By Veronica Corr Gardai were called to a stand-off at Quinn’s Superstore, Castleblayney Road, Carrickmacross when representatives of the receivers appointed by AIB Bank, arrived at the business premises with instructions to change the locks on Friday evening last. It is understood that the owners Michael and Bridget Quinn tried to prevent locksmiths from doing so. Landmark birthday for Carrick quadruplets

The Duffy quads, Thomas, Orla, Niall and JohnPaul recently celebrated their 30th birthday in their hometown of Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. Born on May 7, 1981 at Craigavon Area Hospital in Co. Armagh, the four siblings were delivered by Dr. David Lowry and are Ireland’s first known natural surviving quadruplets. Parents Peader and Elizabeth Duffy raised the quads in Kilsaran, Castlebellingham, Co. Louth along with their younger brother Conor (26) and older sister Roisin (31). Interestingly, their father Peadar Duffy is originally from Lough na Garnaman, Carrickmacross.

Gardai are warning homeowners to be especially vigilant about valuable vehicles parked outside their houses at night, following a spate of “creeper theft” incidents in which high-powered cars and jeeps have been stolen after raiders broke into the owners’ houses to find the keys. By Veronica Corr Amelia Ryczan, a little Polish girl living in Foxfield, Carrickmacross, has just returned from a week of intensive tests for an experimental trreatment in the United States for Battens Disease. Battens Disease is a rare neuro-degenerative condition that affects babies, young children and juveniles. Once again Main Street, Carrickmacross was filled with thousands eager to enjoy the Carrickmacross St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Over 60 colourful groups and organisations took part in the parade this year which was blessed with a crisp, dry day!
