Carrickmacross Lions Club has announced that Hassan and Hussein Benhaffaf will lead this year’s Twin(s) + Parade sponsored by Healthy Hearts, Healthy Lives on June 4th 2011.
The 17-month-old former conjoined miracle twins who recently met Queen Elizabeth II, will travel to Carrickmacross for the festival weekend accompanied by their parents Azzedine and Angie and their sisters Malika (7) and Iman (3).
The boys who were joined from the chest to the pelvis and had only one leg each were separated after a 14 hour operation in London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital in April 2010.
“Little Fighters” is what their mother Angie called them from the start and it is also the name of her recently published book, which gives an account of their lives so far. On the day of the Parade, Angie will be at the Phoenix Centre Carrickmacross between 11am and 1pm for a book signing session.
Carrickmacross Lions Club President Michael Murphy expressed his excitement that the Benhaffafs’ will be spending the June Bank Holiday in Carrickmacross.
“It promises to be a super weekend, we are expecting hundreds of twins and multiples from far and wide and to set a new Irish record for the greatest number of twins/multiples in the same place at the same time”.
He added “these two wee lads are an inspiration to us all and give hope to the whole country. They have overcome huge obstacles and are making great progress. Angie has said that it is her dream to one day see the boys walk hand in hand and we also share that dream and hope that in the coming years we will see them back at the Twin(s) + Parade when they get their new superhero legs”.
The Lions Club has also announced a Free Kids Disney Concert in the Phoenix Sports Centre, Carickmacross on Friday 3rd June at 6.15pm. It is an event not to be missed with over 120 musicians playing Disney favourites. Children can come dressed in their favourite Disney Characters. Entry is €5 for adults and accompanied children are free.
Online registration for the Twin(s) + Parade is now open at www.carrickmacross.ie and all proceeds from the event goes to local charitable causes.
