ULSTER IS FAR FROM PREDICTABLE
GAA, General News, Sport, Sports News »
By Kevin Carney There has been a stuttering start to this year’s Ulster SFC but the competition still has few equals when it comes to generating excitement, spawning drama and engineering outcomes least expected. Safe to say, the only thing we can safely predict from here on in is that Monaghan and Donegal won’t be meeting for a fifth year running in the Ulster senior final. Save, say, the Munster SHC, the football championship in this neck of the woods is the one that consistently gives more than any of its peers. ...

Scotstown 1-20 Doohamlet 1-07 By COLM SHALVEY Scotstown made a convincing start to their defence of the SFC title with a comfortable preliminary-round win over Doohamlet in Castleblayney last Sunday. Shane Carey and Conor McCarthy tormented the Doohamlet defence, kicking 1-13 between them, as Scotstown powered to a sixth consecutive SFC win. Scotstown started brightly with a ...
NO BOOTS SHAKING IN DONEGAL

By Kevin Carney The Ulster SFC has started. Last Sunday, Fermanagh enjoyed a sprint start in their victory (1-12 to 0-9) against Antrim. But most observers would concur that the opening game of this year’s provincial championship was sadly more of a false start. Fermanagh boss Peter McGrath talked after the game about his side having “sleep-walked” their way through the second half against Antrim. Unfortunately, ‘sleep’ was the operative word richocheting around the rafters of Brewster Park’s well-stocked stand. Those who made their way to the match were the lucky ones for ...
