A DAY WHEN SMALL DETAILS MATTERED….

BY JOHN GRAHAM It would be easy in analysing this game to look at just the small things that influenced the overall outcome but that would be to do a disservice to two very evenly matched teams who both put in sterling performances. Overall Doohamlet will rue those late missed chances and a few earlier in the game as well as the little lapse that allowed Cookstown Fr Rocks in for that early goal, but it would be churlish to just talk about those in isolation as Doohamlet showed just ...

DONAGHMOYNE FLIES FLAG FOR MONAGHAN IN ALL-IRELAND FOOTBALL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Donaghmoyne carry Monaghan’s hopes for All Ireland club glory this weekend when both their A and B teams play in the All Ireland semi finals. First up is the B team who play Boherbue ( Cork ) on Saturday. Having a second team at senior level is an acheivement on its own, but to win a county title and then go on to win an Ulster title is a fantastic achievement. They have the ability to go further and with home advantage, don’t rule out the possibility of this team going all ...

DOOHAMLET AND DRUMHOWAN FLY MONAGHAN FLAG AS BALLYBAY EXIT

Two out of three ain’t bad … Monaghan honour was well upheld on the weekend’s provincial stage. by COLM SHALVEY Doohamlet and Drumhowan will fly the Monaghan flag in the Ulster club championship semi-finals after Ballybay’s first provincial SFC campaign in 25 years came to an early exit. Ballybay needed everything stacked in their favour if they were to get past a handy Kilcoo outfit, who defeated St. Eunan’s of Letterkenny in their last Ulster club appearance three years ago. It didn’t work out that way, however, as this game in Clones proved ...

CLONES CLINCH IT THE SECOND DAY

CLONES 1-10 AGHABOG 1-03 BY COLM SHALVEY CLONES took full advantage of their second chance with a seven-point win over Aghabog in the Eurotech Junior Football League Final Replay at Scotstown last Sunday. Clones had been relieved to escape with a draw seven days earlier, but they upped their game to run out fairly comfortable winners against an Aghabog side who played two-thirds of the match with 14 men. Clones had suffered a string of semi-final and final defeats since being relegated to junior in 2006, including the ...

MCAREE STEPS DOWN AS MINOR BOSS

A week may be a long time in politics but two years, it seems, as an intercounty manager can be an eternity. by KEVIN CARNEY To the surprise of many in the Monaghan GAA family, outgoing county minor football team-manager Colin McAree has decided not to seek a nomination to remain in the hot seat for a third year. The Monaghan Harps clubman succeeded Bernie Murray as minor manager at the tail end of 2010, taking up the position for a two year term initially and with the understanding that a review after ...

BALLYBAY TO FACE EXPERIENCED DOWN CHAMPIONS IN CLONES

JOHN GRAHAM Reports Ballybay take part in the Ulster senior club championship for the first time in 25 years when they take on Down champions Kilcoo in Clones on Sunday with a 2-30pm. start. In meeting the Down champions they are taking on a very experienced outfit as this year they won their second Down senior football championship in three years under the guidance of Jim McCorry and when you add three league titles to that championship haul under McCorry’s guidance it is an indication of the strength in depth that Kilcoo ...

SUB SARTO SAVES THE DAY

AGHABOG 1-09 CLONES 1-09 BY JOHN GRAHAM IT WAS billed as one that had the potential to be a close encounter and that is exactly how it worked out as there was nothing to separate the sides at the end of this absorbing Junior Football League Final that was played in a good spirit in Scotstown on Sunday afternoon last. Overall a draw was probably a fair enough result as both sides enjoyed periods of dominance and both had also squandered chances, but overall Aghabog will have slightly more reason to be disappointed as they looked ...
