AN early morning bid by a cross-border gang to snatch an ATM machine containing several thousand euro at the Ulster Bank premises on Dublin Road, Castleblayney, failed yesterday (Wed) when the raiders were unable to open the safe or convey it away from the area. The raiders had also placed a gas tank and other paraphenelia on the road near the bank, in a bid to thwart gardai from moving to the scene. The Easter Ramble Run & Rubber Duck Race takes place in Laragh on this Sunday 12th April 2pm-5pm. The 5k walk leaves from Laragh at 2pm (registration from 1pm). The duck races begin at 3pm. A Toyota Avensis car belonging to local photographer Pat Byrne was badly damaged in Carrickmacross on Tuesday afternoon when a section of wall collapsed at Ivy Lane. Another vehicle parked nearby also suffered damage. Emergency services were called to the scene but no-one was injured as both cars were unoccupied. Surprised students and parents arrived to Collegiate School, Monaghan on Tuesday morning for Study Week to see the sight of the 80 ft beech tree completely blocking the avenue just off the busy N2 Dublin/ Castleblayney Road. The tree fell after a night of high winds, at approx. 8.50 am, only minutes after a parent and her daughter had arrived at the school. Thankfully no one was hurt.
