COULD THE MCKENNA CLAN CLAIM THE COVETED TITLE OF IRELAND’S FITTEST FAMILY?

The McKennas from the Emyvale/ Glaslough area of County Monaghan make their debut on the small screen this week, as they are competitors in Ireland’s Fittest Family. So, our readers are encouraged to tune into RTÉ One on Sunday evening at 6.30pm to see how the local family get on. On Tuesday, The Northern Standard caught up with Sharon McKenna, who told this reporter how the whole thing came about.

Filming of the series is now complete, however, there were some things Sharon couldn’t say, so we’ll all have to watch the family’s journey to find out! Sharon explained: “I went for a cycle with a good friend of mine, Katrina Polack. We came back to the house and had a cup of tea sitting at the kitchen table. The two boys came home, one from football, another from working at sheep, and then the two girls landed in from boxing. I don’t pass any remarks on that because the house is busy. Katrina was just looking at it and said: ‘Oh my God, your house is so busy, everybody’s so fit, so active. You should enter Ireland’s Fittest Family. ’ “I said: ‘Oh Katrina, would you cop yourself on? Athletes enter that, not us!’ She said: ‘No lady, you should, ’ and then she got whispering into Cailín’s ear behind my back! … So Cailín went ahead with the application. She was under 18, she used my e-mail. I got an e-mail saying: ‘Thank you for entering ….
