ANOTHER YOUNG LIFE LOST ON CO MONAGHAN’S ROADS
A 17-year-old male was killed in a single-vehicle road traffic accident at Carrickaderry, Clontibret around 1.30 am yesterday, Wednesday September 20. The victim was the driver of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the mortuary at Monaghan Hospital. A post mortem is due to take place. The accident location, on a stretch of the old N2, was closed off yesterday to facilitate a technical examination by the Gardaí. Diversions were in place. Monaghan Gardaí requested anyone who might have witnessed the accident to get in touch with them on 047 – 77200. They made a particular appeal to motorists travelling in the Clontibret area between 1-1.45 am who might have dash camera footage that could be of assistance.
MINISTER HUMPHREYS EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES
In a statement yesterday, Cavan/Monaghan TD and Government Minister Heather Humphreys extended her condolences to the family bereaved by the latest Co Monaghan road tragedy. “Today, we woke up to the tragic news of the loss of a much-loved young boy in Clontibret,” Minister Humphreys stated. “Heartache and sadness have touched yet another Monaghan family. “For a young life, with such a bright future, to be cut short in this way is truly devastating. “I am so saddened and offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and community. “There are no words that can truly capture how they are feeling at this time.”
