NEW SCHOOL ERA DAWNS FOR ROCKCORRY
“There in his noisy mansion, skill’d to rule, The village master taught his little school…” Something of the wistfulness of the famous Oliver Goldsmith poem The Deserted Village was evoked in Rockcorry on Tuesday when pupils assisted their principal Donal Quigley in transferring materials from the old School Mhuire national school building on its last day of use. When pupils and principal return in around a year’s time, it will be to a new five-classroom development recently conferred formal approval by Minister for Education Norma Foley TD which promises to deliver state of the art education facilities to the area – the culmination of a long campaign by the school board of management guided and assisted by the Building Unit of Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board.
