CLEARANCE WORKS ADJACENT TO COOTEHILL CHURCH SIGNAL POSSIBLE ALDI SUPERMARKET DEVELOPMENT

THE prospect of a new supermarket outlet in Cootehill took a very visible and tangible step forward when extensive site clearance works adjacent to St Michael’s Church at Station Road — and reaching back to the rear of properties at the north-eastern end of the main street — began last week and were continuing as we went to print.

The Northern Standard has had it confirmed from reliable sources that the Aldi chain is in the process of buying a site at the location, subject to planning permission being approved. It is understood that no application has been submitted for planning as yet, but that property owners have facilitated the use of diggers at the site to remove undergrowth, thereby allowing a survey to be carried out with a view to preparing a planning submission and generally assessing its potential for the commercial enterprise as envisaged.

If such a project does get the go-ahead, the most likely entrance would be from the Station Road, between the existing church property boundary and the house on its north-western (town) side. It has also been indicated that the adjoining St Michael’s Church has availed…
