BEWARE OF THE BADGER! – WILDLIFE CONSIDERATIONS COMPLICATE DUNALDRON ROAD REPAIRS

The repair of a roadway at Dunaldron in the Ardaghey area is being complicated by the presence of a sett of badgers, it emerged at Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District.

A question on the agenda submitted by Cathaoirleach Sean Conlon referred to an accumulation of potholes on a recently tarred stretch of road at Dunaldron, and enquired what progress had been made to date regarding plans to repair “this crater-like surface”.

A written reply stated that there was an active badger set beneath the road, which was protected under the provisions of the Wildlife Act.

“An Environmental Consultant has been engaged and an application for removal of the badgers has been sent to the licensing unit ….
