Sunday saw local Glaslough Harrier Conor Duffy cap a great week when he won the fourth running of the Mc Mahons Supervalu 5K in Castleblayney , earlier in the week Conor had been chosen  to represent Ireland at the 21st SPAR European Cross Country Championships which takes place in Samokov, Bulgaria on Sunday December 14th.

The race which is fast becoming one of the best races in the North East was packed with a quality field with thirty five clubs been represented on the day as well as a host of other sporting groups.

A fast time was always going to be required and Conor showed his intentions of going one better than his second place last year when he turned at the half way point to kick for home to win on a PB of 15”23 some three seconds quicker than last year. Conor was followed shortly after by Michael McKillop (2nd Male) in 15’59”.The first female was Olivia Martin from Bohermeen Club  in 19’30” and for the second year in a row  the 2nd Female went to Donna Evans in 20’12.

The “Fastest Athletics  Club” moved from the Blayney Rockets to its new home in Clones  thanks to three of their team finishing in the top sixteen. Well done to the nearly eight hundred people who took part on a brilliant day, the atmosphere and community spirit was fantastic and the local Faughs Club who were the chief organizer must be commended on their organizational ability.

A large crowd was also in attendance at the Glencarn Hotel to hear firstly Gerry Duffy followed by Pat Divilly from Divilly Fitness on how nutrition can have such a beneficial effect on people health and lifestyle.

Next year’s race is confirmed for Sunday 29th of November so get it into the Diary now this really is a brilliant race run in a brilliant fun environment with PB for 5k easily attainable. Well done to everybody involved.
