RURAL COMMUNITY SHOCKED BY TRAGIC FARM FATALITY AT ROCKCORRY

A CLOSE-KNIT rural community was shocked and stunned over the Easter period by the sudden and untimely death last Thursday, as a result of a tragic farm accident near Rockcorry, of a very popular 28-years-old local man, David Fitzpatrick.

Mr Fitzpatrick was working along with his father, Ciaran, on the family farm at Kilnaharvey when he was crushed by a large door, which, it was reported, had slipped from a tractor forklift.

After being extricated with great care and difficulty from his trapped position, the young man received emergency medical attention before being subsequently airlifted by helicopter from St Mary’s Hospital, Castleblayney to Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan.

However, despite the best efforts of a medical team, he was later pronounced dead.

On Friday last, Good Friday, neighbours, including senior officials of the GAA with whom the victim and his family were very closely associated, gathered to offer …
