Gardai are carrying out searches in the Clontibret area as part of an ongoing investigation into a robbery in the local post office that took place at about 10.30am on Tuesday morning.
Two men carrying hammers had broken a security screen after entering Clontitbret Post Office, and they subsequently made off with a sum believed to be in the region of €5,000.
The postmistress who was working in the office at the time received facial injuries in the incident, but it is understood that her injuries were not serious.
Gardai have confirmed that the two men made their escape in a silver coloured Toyota Avensis car, and it is believed they drove off towards the Border in the direction of Derrynoose.
Anyone who may have seen the silver car in the area at around that time on Tuesday morning, or anything suspicious, is asked to contact the gardai in confidence at Monaghan (047 82222) or any garda station.
