GREAT NIGHT HAD BY ALL AT KILLEEVAN GFC CENTENARY BALL

By Kevin Carney Sadly none of the original founders of the club were there but the current custodians of all that is good about Killeevan Sarsfields still raised the roof last Friday night at their Centenary Ball. It was the night Guardhill encamped in the Kilmore. Seldom before have so many gaels left so few behind them in Killeevan. The hotel in Cavan was en fete last Friday. Killeevan Sarsfields had come to town en masse for its Centenary Ball. Had it been a wedding, there could scarcely have been more smiley faces ...

The draw for the 2016 Ulster Senior Football Championship took place on RTE on Thursday evening last and once again it threw up some intriguing pairings that should again make it the most interesting and most the competitive of all the 4 provincial competitions. The only certainty following the draw is that Monaghan and Donegal cannot contest a fourth Ulster championship final in a row as they are in the same side of the draw and a semi-final meeting looks the most likely outcome of those early rounds. Reigning champions Monaghan came ...

SUPER SCOTSTOWN SHOWING SEES THEM CROWNED MONAGHAN COUNTY CHAMPIONS

Scotstown are county champions for the second time in three years after a strong start led them to victory over Monaghan Harps at St Tiarnach’s Park, Clones, last Sunday. by COLM SHALVEY Monaghan Harps struck first in the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship Final through the impressive Shane Smyth, but by the end of the first quarter, Scotstown had taken charge with two goals. The first was an opportunistic finish by Orin Heaphey, who justified his starting position by scoring 1-2, after a Darren Hughes pass spilled loose, before Man ...

SCOTSTOWN CHAMPIONS

Scotstown 2-12 Monaghan Harps 0-09 By JOHN GRAHAM THERE was to be no fairytale ending to Monaghan Harps efforts to bridge the 92 years gap since they last won the Monaghan senior football championship as a more composed and experienced Scotstown regained the Monaghan senior football championship title that they last held in 2013. Ultimately Scotstown possessed too much power and versatility and were able to contain the Harps threat although had they capitalised on a few good chances, one or two in particular for goals at vital times, the course of this game ...

SCOTSTOWN FAVOURITES BUT MONAGHAN HARPS HAVE HUNGER ON

JOHN GRAHAM As always there are a number of imponderables in trying to assess who will come out on the right side of things at the end of Sunday’s final in Clones. At the outset Scotstown are definitely going into the game as favourites given that they are the more experienced team at this level, but against that, Monaghan Harps have hunger on their side and a burning desire to end their 92 years in the Monaghan senior football championship wilderness and in doing that this current crop of players can start ...

EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING FOR COUNTY FINAL DAY AT CLONES

With most of the championship titles decided, excitement is now building for county final day at St Tiernach’s Park this Sunday. by COLM SHALVEY The 2015 Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship Final has thrown up a different pairing, with Monaghan Harps there for the first time since 1991 to take on 2013 winners Scotstown. Scotstown are at this stage for the third time in a row and the fourth year out of five. After losing to Latton in the 2011 final, Scotstown ended their 20-year wait for a title when they beat ...

TEAMS HAVE THEIR EYE ON TITLE AND PROMOTION

When Carrickmacross and Doohamlet lock horns in St Mary’s Park, Castleblayney, this Sunday in the final of the intermediate football championship it will be the first time ever that these two sides have met in the decider. by JOHN GRAHAM Analysis and analysing prospects is all very well, but how did the club representatives at the recent Press Night see things panning out. Understandably neither side was giving much away, and both were, to an extent, talking up the opposition, which is understandable in the circumstances. Carrickmacross captain Ryan McEnaney is looking ...

SCOTSTOWN STRIKES AGAIN

Scotstown 1-14 Castleblayney 1-08 BY JOHN GRAHAM SCOTSTOWN are back in the final of the Monaghan Senior Football Championship for the third year in a row when they just had that extra dimension to their game in this fairly low-key and at times scrappy semi final that was played in good conditions in Clontibret on Saturday evening last. Scotstown had matters very much their own way in the first half as they got off to a flying start with Castleblayney not registering their first point until the 14th minute, by which stage Scotstown ...

HARPS REV TOWARDS TITLE

Monaghan Harps 2-12 Clontibret 1-10 By COLM SHALVEY MONAGHAN HARPS are through to the Monaghan Senior Football Championship Final for the first time since 1991 after they dethroned Clontibret in this semi-final at Scotstown last Sunday. Despite conceding an early goal to Conor Boyle, the Harps led for most of this match, with Fearghal McMahon and Michael Galligan hitting the net in either half. Clontibret had Dessie Mone sent off at the end of the first half and they later saw Darach Mooney dismissed, just minutes after Harps forward Dónal Hahessy had suffered the ...
