INNISKEEN STUDENT WINS PRIZE IN NATIONAL ART COMPETITION

A secondary school student fom Inniskeen, Sarah Leddy, has won first prize in the Irish League of Credit Unions annual art competition in the 11-13 year-olds category. She received a cheque for €500 in a ceremony at the Croke Park conference centre last Sunday. Sarah is a past pupil of St Daigh’s National School, Inniskeen, and currently attends St Vincent’s Seconday School in Dundalk. Co Monaghan’s new sporting ambassador, rising rallying star Daniel McKenna, will be Grand Marshal of this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Monaghan Town. Monaghan is back in its rightful place of leadership with the opening of a new Education Campus and the jobs announcement by Combilift, according to An Taoiseach Enda Kenny T.D. Mr Kenny was speaking during the official opening of the €45 million Education Campus on the site of the former military barracks on the Armagh Road. The Corcreagh-based bottlers of the finest natural spring water, have been named as a finalist for the awards in the manufacturing category, sponsored by competitive energy provider Energia. Hundreds of local Anti-Water Charges protests took place across the country on Saturday the 31st of January and part of the National Day of Action against the Water Charges organised by Right2Water. In Co. Monaghan three protests were held. The first took place in Carrickmacross, the second was held in Clones and the third was held in Monaghan Town. Co. Pat Treanor from Doogary in Tydavnet is one of the oldest people in County Monaghan. He has lived through two World Wars, the troubles in the North and many other important world events. He celebrated his 103rd birthday on Saturday with his family, in the house where he has lived since his birth on January 31st 1912.
