Lakeland Dairies has announced the appointment of Mr. Colin Kelso, a dairy farmer from Dungannon, Co Tyrone as Vice-Chairman of the co-operative. Mr Kelso joined the Board of Lakeland Dairies in 2013. He succeeds Gerry Melia who has served with distinction as Vice-Chairman since 2012 and who continues as a Board member. Cavan and Monaghan ETB’s Community Education and Adult Literacy Graduation took place in the Garage Theatre in Monaghan’s Education Campus on Monday the 22nd February. Deirdre Byrne, Community Education Facilitator with CMETB, welcomed everyone and congratulated some 120 students who were in attendance to receive Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 Certificates in subject areas such as Healthcare, Gardening, ESOL, Bookkeeping, Construction, Childcare, Cookery and Computers. Members of the organising committee behind the McCabe twins fundraiser this week presented a cheque for €7,500 to The Holy Family School in Cootehill. As previously reported in The Northern Standard, five-year old Francis and Maeve McCabe, who are son and daughter of Kate and Kevin McCabe from Avelreagh, Clontibret, suffer a host of medical problems. ARMY BOMB DISPOSAL TEAM DEFUSED “VIABLE DEVICE” FOUND IN BALLYBAY AREA
A suspicious device found in the rural hinterland of Ballybay on Thursday last was rendered safe by members of the Army Bomb Disposal Team. The device, which was described as viable, was discovered by a member of the public in the Drumlane area. Gardaí were called to the scene and the Army Bomb Disposal Team was alerted. The device was rendered safe after 40 minutes without the necessity for a controlled explosion. As a precaution a number of residences in the area were temporarily evacuated.
