By Veronica Corr November 30th is the deadline by which all monies drawn down for flood alleviation works on the Ballybay/Clones Road (R162/R190) must be spent, a public meeting heard last Thursday evening. There was a large attendance at the Wetlands Centre, Ballybay, as locals proved very interested in what Monaghan County Council had planned for the road, which had been seriously affected by flooding in recent years. A Castleblayney boy who is battling Leukaemia had the honour of graduating from the Garda College in Templemore last week alongside this year’s new garda recruits. Monaghan Co Council has launched a summer initiative to clamp down on motorists who discard litter from their vehicles. Lakeland Dairies has reported a positive business performance in spite of volatile global dairy market conditions, in the co-operative’s annual report for 2015. The recent Annual General Meeting was told that profit before tax increased by 10% to €12.8 million. Group revenues of €588.5 million reflect a 6% reduction due to global conditions where there is continuing pressure on the returns from the markets, shareholders were informed. COMBILIFT REACHES 30,000 PRODUCTION MILESTONE
Monaghan firm Combilift Ltd, the Irish specialist manufacturer of multidirectional forklifts, straddle carriers and other innovative handling solutions for long loads, containers and palletised goods recently celebrated a milestone in the company’s history. PETER HUGHES A new advocacy service for older people is being made available to users of Monaghan Hospital. A briefing on the service was delivered in the hospital on Tuesday evening by its providers SAGE, whose Development Worker Danielle Monahan described the approach being adopted as “to collaborate where possible and challenge where necessary”.
