Group-stage fixtures confirmed for new-look Monaghan championship Colm Shalvey reports Monaghan GAA this week confirmed details for the upcoming club championship schedule. All games in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Football Championships will be played on Saturdays and Sundays, starting on July 25. JOHN GRAHAM The GAA has reversed its position on sanctioning teams who violate the ban on inter-county training before September 14th by potentially disqualifying them from competition. In a sharp escalation a conference call of county officials heard last weekend that such an approach was now being hardened considerably with possible ejection from competitions if counties are found to be training prior to September 14th. Majella O’Sullivan, Catriona Burgess, Joan McNally and Sarah Fox. Four ladies from Aughnamullen / Corduff who took part in a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Ireland to walk / run 100k in 30 days in the month of June. Between them these ladies raised €8,700 for this worthwhile charity and they should be very proud of their achievement and involvement in this fundraising campaign. KINGSPAN RAISES €72,500 FOR IRISH HOSPICE FOUNDATION
Kingspan, the maker of highperformance insulation and building envelope solutions, has presented a cheque for €72,500 to the Irish Hospice Foundation. The money raised will be used by IHF’s Nurses for Night Care which is a national service providing free nursing care to families affected by non-cancer illnesses. A team of 9 people from the Kingscourt-based company were due to travel to Italy to take part in the Cycle Challenge between 28 June – 4 July in aid of the Nurses for Night Care service. AN TAISCE WINS TEN-TEAR CASE OVER MONAGHAN QUARRY
The Supreme Court has found in favour of the environmental group An Taisce in a case in which a Co. Monaghan quarry owner was granted a form of retention of planning permission known as “substitute consent’. The Court found that the permission granted by An Bord Pleanála to John McQuaid (Quarries) Ltd at Lemgare, near Clontibret, was inconsistent with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive of European law. MAN’S DEATH IN AUGHNACLOY “NOT SUSPICIOUS”
The PSNI say the death of a man in Aughnacloy, Co. Tyrone over the weekend is not being treated as suspicious. Police and paramedics were called to Salley’s bar and restaurant on Moore Street around 5.00pm on Saturday. It’s believed the man collapsed while dining and suffered a massive heart attack. A spokesperson for the restaurant said they had spoken to family members and conveyed their sympathy to them on their sad and tragic loss. The man was in his mid-60s and came from the Dungannon area.
