FORMER COUNTY COUNCILLOR TO BE ORDAINED DEACON
A former member of Monaghan Co Council and former Cathaoirleach of the Monaghan Co Board of the GAA will be ordained as a Permanent Deacon for service in the Diocese of Clogher at St Michael’s Church in Annyalla, Castleblayney tomorrow, Friday evening, September 5. Gary Carville will be ordained by Bishop of Clogher Larry Duffy. He was the recipient of a vote of good wishes and congratulations at Monday’s meeting of the Co Council. Gary will be joined by his wife Kathleen and other members of family, classmates, formators, work colleagues and many other members of the local community.
The priests of the Diocese of Clogher, together with visiting bishops, priests and deacons, will also be part of the proceedings. Gary Carville is a native of Annyalla, son of the late Arthur and Carmel Carville. His father also served with distinction as a Fine Gael representative on Monaghan Co Council. Educated at Annyalla NS, St Mary’s CBS, Monaghan and the College of Commerce Rathmines he worked for a number of years as an accountant in industry and the retail business.
Returning to college in 2006, he obtained a BA in Theology and Irish Studies at the Mater Dei Institute of Education, Dublin. He then earned a PhD in Historical Theology and Modern Irish History from Dublin City University in 2019. His thesis, by research, was based on the reception of the Second Vatican Council in Ireland. Since 2021, Dr Carville has worked with the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference where he is the Coordinator of the Council for Migrants, Refugees and Justice and Peace and Executive Secretary for the Commission for Social Issues & International Affairs and the Council for Ecumenism and Dialogue.
