COUNCILLORS RAISE QUERIES OVER PURPOSE AND APPARENT FAST-TRACKING OF ROOSKEY LINK ROAD PROJECT
The purpose of a new link road project about to get underway in the Rooskey area in Monaghan Town, and how it appeared to have progressed with alacrity when other link road needs in the area remained outstanding, were issues raised by elected representatives at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council. Independent councillor Seamus Treanor asked the executive what was the point of the road at Rooskey Vale, referring to an email he had received in relation to the project. “Three weeks from the start of work we are sent a map,” Councillor Treanor observed. Asking where the funding came from for the project, he said there were loads of other roads the Council could be doing work on around Monaghan. “Is this a road by the back door for the new office block on the hill?” he asked. He added that he had asked to be shown by the Co Council engineers what was happening. Director of Services Cathal Flynn said the Rooskey access road was a service road to open up lands the Council had acquired from the HSE.
