• Our picture by Rory Geary shows Cathaoirleach of the Monaghan Municipal District Councillor Seán Conlon laying a wreath at the memorial in Church Square to the victims of the 1974 no-warning car bomb attack in Monaghan Town during a ceremony last Saturday to mark the 51st anniversary of the Monaghan and Dublin attacks that led to the greatest loss of life on a single day during the Troubles period. Co Monaghan was also represented at memorial events which took place in Dublin on Saturday. Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan TD said this week that the Government was committed to “persevere in our efforts to seek out the truth behind the tragic events of 17 May 1974 and, hopefully, secure some measure of comfort for those effected by these callous attacks.” See full report and more pictures inside.
