HUMAN REMAINS FRAGMENTS FOUND IN ANNYALLA “DISAPPEARED” SEARCH
Fragments of human remains have been located at a site being investigated in Annyalla Cemetery in Co Monaghan as part of a search being conducted by the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains, which is seeking to locate the bodies of those “disappeared” during the Northern Ireland Troubles. The search has taken place at what the ICLVR said was “a small area of interest” within the confines of the cemetery but not a family grave site. Earlier this year remains were exhumed from a grave in the cemetery as part of a search for the body of Joe Lynskey, who was abducted and subsequently murdered by the IRA In 1972. DNA testing subsequently showed that these remains were not those of the former Cistercian monk and IRA member. The State Pathologist has been notified of the latest discovery and the remains have now been taken away for technical examination.
