PASSING OF FORMER CAVAN/MONAGHAN TD ENGENDERS MANY TRIBUTES

Taoiseach and Fine Gael leader Simon Harris TD has led tributes from across the political spectrum to former Cavan/Monaghan TD Andrew Boylan, who passed away at Cavan General Hospital on Friday last, December 6. From Butlersbridge, Mr Boylan was elected a Fine Gael TD in the Cavan/Monaghan constituency in 1987 and served in Dáíl Éireann until 2002. Prior to his advent into local politics he had a distinguished career as a local public representative, and was a former Chairperson of both Cavan Co Council and Cavan Urban District Council. Born in January 1939, he is survived by his wife Margot and children Gerard, Andrew, Matt, Fergal and Brìd; grandchildren Patrick, Millie, Jenna, Anna, Finn, Nell, Pippa, Rose and Myles; sisters Elsie Mannix and Mary Mara, daughters-in-law Deborah and Jayne; son-in-law Paul; nephews, nieces and extended family.

He was predeceased by his sister Donie. Mr Boylan’s Funeral Mass took place last Monday morning at 11 am in St Aidan’s Church, Butlersbridge, followed by burial in Cullies Cemetery. Expressing his condolences, the Taoiseach said he had learned of the former TD’s passing with great sadness, and described him as “a dedicated public representative”. “Known for his advocacy, he was successful in bringing proper infrastructure to his constituency, and in delivering quality roads to the region,” the Fine Gael leader stated. “At a difficult time for farm families, he secured the inclusion of Cavan and Monaghan in the Severely Handicapped Areas category of the Areas of National Constraint (ANC) grant scheme, providing a vital lifeline. “He briefly held the Equality and Disabilities portfolio and…
