DEPUTY NIAMH SMYTH DISAPPOINTED AND ANGERED BY MISSING / ALLEGEDLY STOLEN POSTERS

Fianna Fáil Deputy Niamh Smyth, who is a candidate in the upcoming General Election was shocked and saddened this week to find that four of her billboard-sized campaign posters, had been removed without a trace, something she suspects would have taken time, as they were attached to posts that were driven into the ground. Great care was taken to ensure that they were not causing an obstruction and she has confirmed that they were not removed by the Council. Deputy Smyth is especially disappointed because her 76-year-old father erected the posters with David Cosgrove, who is working on her campaign.

The posters will be replaced, she says and the removal of the promotional material will not deter her from fighting to retain the seat that she has held for two terms, since the 2016 General Election. In an interview with The Northern Standard this week, Deputy Smyth made the point that she is as well-known in Monaghan as she is in Cavan, as she used to work as Arts Education Officer with the ETB, covering the whole county and she was based in Monaghan Education Campus.

She also drew attention to the fact that she has a constituency office in Castleblayney, open and busy year-round. Speaking on Tuesday, Deputy Smyth told this reporter: “They put the posters up on Thursday evening, November 14th and on Friday morning they came back to do some of the smaller posters.
