HAVE YOUR SAY AT IDEAS STAGE OF REIMAGINING MONAGHAN

Monaghan County Council, in partnership with John McLaughlin Architects and the Monaghan Town team, have developed an ambitious heritage-led regeneration plan for Monaghan Town and St Louis Convent lands. The project is funded by the Heritage Council, and also through the first strand of the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme (THRIVE). Presentation boards are available for viewing at the Market House and paper submissions can be made there up until the closing date for submissions, the 22nd November 2024. On Friday afternoon, there was a public consultation event in the Market House Monaghan, where Mr. Drew Hurley, Senior Planning Executive with Monaghan County Council said: “We want your views. THRIVE funding has enabled us to carry out two elements: A Town Centre Action Plan and an option for ancillary buildings. We had an initial consultation in the shopping centre, a large number of people made submissions and this (Draft Regeneration Plan and Options Paper) is the result. Katia (Papkovskaia) and the team at (John McLoughlin Architects) put together these reports and now we want to get your views as to what you think of them, and whether you think they are an appropriate direction for the council to go in, both for the town and the buildings themselves.” Then Ms. Katia Papkovskaia of John McLoughlin Architects commented: “To bring some life back into Monaghan Town, to enhance its qualities, we are looking to build on what you have already, rather that transform it to the point where you may not recognise it. A lot of the actions we are proposing are quite high level: to improve the shop fronts, to bring nice materials and fixtures to the town to bring a little more…
