SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS ON PALLIATIVE CARE PROVISION FOR CAVAN/MONAGHAN

“This is a major landmark in bringing world class specialist palliative care services to the communities of Cavan and Monaghan.” So stated the Chairman of St Christopher’s Hospice in Cavan, Jim Lalor, this week after the HSE confirmed that final tender documentation for the refurbishment and extension of St Christopher’s Hospice, with a view to making palliative care facilities available for the Cavan/Monaghan area, had now been completed.

“The initial phase of a pre-tender suitability assessment has been completed to prepare a shortlist of contractors who will now be invited to tender the project,” the HSE said in a statement. “The successful delivery of this project will result in the provision of world class end of life care in a 16-bed specialist inpatient hospice and the facility will also include outpatient services. It is planned to accommodate the hospice homecare team onsite in phase two of the project. “This joint project between the St. Christopher’s and the HSE involves significant financial and asset contributions by both parties.” “This will be an amazing service and will transform end of life care for patients and loved ones,” he predicted.
