MONAGHAN FARMING EXCELLENCE TO THE FORE AT CASTLEBLAYNEY SHOW
A salutary reminder of the exemplary standards pertaining in all dimensions of agricultural activity in Co Monaghan and the wider north-east was provided at the 67th Castleblayney Show on Bank Holiday Monday last. Castleblayney’s place at the forefront of the regional show circuit was reinforced by the hosting of two Irish Show Association All-Ireland finals and by the presence of ISA President Ray Brady and other members of the association’s national executive. Donegal man Luke Barrett claimed first prize in the All Ireland Crossbred Breeding Ewe Lamb Championship, while Sligo’s Margaret Doody reigned supreme in the All-Ireland Bread Baking Championship.
A qualifier for the All Ireland Photography Championship run by the ISA saw Coimhe Sheridan and Dympna Duffy advance to the national final at Tydavnet Show in two weeks’ time. The honour of cutting the ribbon to declare the show officially open was this year accorded to Johnny Brady, with the moment preceded by the traditional parade of invited guests and prominent show participants. Monday’s intermittent rain failed to dampen the enjoyment of the large crowds who circulated the Showgrounds throughout the morning and afternoon. An array of attractions, entertainment and trade stands ensured that all in the family found something to occupy their attention.
