SUPPORT EMY LOUGH DIPPERS IN THE NIP!

Emy Lough Dippers need your support tomorrow, Friday, 2nd August, as they will be collecting for their 13th annual Dip In The Nip, in aid of NECRET (North East Cancer Research & Education Trust), better known as the Oncology Unit in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where patients from Monaghan are referred. Tomorrow’s collections will take place at two locations in the village, outside McMahon’s of Emyvale and Centra Emyvale. A big shout out also goes to Emyvale Tidy Towns committee for use of tables, chairs and canopies so that collectors don’t get rained on. Speaking to The Northern Standard on Monday, one of the group Deborah McGeough paid tribute to Emy Lough Dippers’ founder Roisin Keenan, because if it wasn’t for her none of the swimmers would have gotten involved in the enjoyable hobby, which also raises funds for charity.

Last year Emy Lough Dippers raised €17,500 for NECRET, which benefits local patients in need of the service and this year they are hoping to exceed that fundraising figure. A total of 24 swimmers are registered to take a Dip In The Nip on September 8th at an undisclosed location. Even the swimmers themselves don’t know until after they arrive in Dublin and are shuttle bused to the beach where this year’s swim takes place. The location is kept top secret to protect the modesty of those who dare to bare and photography is not allowed, unless agreed amongst groups. It was felt that there should be a uniform approach taken by Emy Lough Dippers, rather than everyone wearing different outerwear over their birthday suits, it was decided that each swimmer would buy…
