CUAN PRIORITISING PROVISION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE REFUGE FOR MONAGHAN AND CAVAN
Fianna Fáil TD for C a v a n / M o n a g h a n Brendan Smith told the Northern Standard this week that he had received confirmation from domestic, sexual and gender-based violence agency Cuan that Monaghan and Cavan have been identified as a priority location for the delivery of eight family refuge spaces. In response to a number of Parliamentary Questions tabled by the Cavan/Monaghan Deputy, Cuan CEO Dr Stephanie O’Keeffe confirmed C a v a n / M o n a g h a n ’ s prioritisation and said that Cuan since its establishment had been in inter-agency engagement with stakeholders in the region.
Dr O’Keeffe in her correspondence to Deputy Smith stated: “One of the key actions of the Zero Tolerance Strategy for Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (DSGBV) is doubling the number of refuge spaces available during the lifetime of the Strategy to 280 refuge spaces. “Since its establishment in January 2024, Cuan has begun managing and overseeing the delivery of additional refuge units.
