ESB ASKED TO PROVIDE LEGAL BASIS FOR
INTERCONNECTOR ROLE AS EIRGRID CHIEF BOWS OUT
ESB Networks were asked this week to supply information on the legal basis that entitles them to act on behalf of grid operator EirGrid in the delivery of the north-south interconnector project. Cathaoirleach Sean Gilliland had a motion adopted at Monday’s meeting of the Ballybay-Clones Municipal District requesting the ESB to supply the “documented legal process” that empowered them to act on behalf of EirGrid in relation to planning matters concerning the interconnector development, which is the subject of concerted opposition by landowners and communities in parts of counties Monaghan, Cavan and Meath who want the project delivered using underground infrastructure.
The motion was seconded by Independent councillor Hugh McElvaney and unanimously supported. The Cathaoirleach said he was prompted to table the motion by issues which arose during a recent meeting between ESB representatives and planning officials from Monaghan, Cavan and Meath Co Councils.
