MINISTERIAL PRAISE FOR COUNTY COUNCIL AS 359 VACANT SOCIAL HOMES RETURNED TO ACTIVE USE
Monaghan Co Council has come in for praise from Minister for Housing, Heritage and Local Government, Darragh O’Brien TD for bringing 359 vacant social homes in the county back into active use between 2014- 2023 under his Department’s Voids Programme. €4.1 million was spent in order to renovate and refurbish the homes.
“Making more efficient use of existing housing stock is a key action of the Government’s Housing for All plan,” Minister O’Brien stated. “The Voids Programme supports local authorities in preparing vacant homes for re-letting and builds on the ongoing work to tackle vacancy and dereliction to bring vacant properties into re-use for housing. “Refurbishment and the return to use of vacant properties helps to reduce pressure on existing housing stock, increase supply, and ultimately, provide much needed homes for people.
