TOP ANTI-LITTER LEAGUE PERFORMANCE BY MONAGHAN TOWN

Monaghan Town has been praised by the adjudicators in the IBAL Anti-Litter League for one of its best ever performances in the analysis of the cleanliness of 40 Irish towns and cities. The final Irish Business Against Litter survey of 2023 puts the county capital in 7th place in the league table, declaring it “cleaner than European norms”. The An Taisce adjudicators found no seriously littered sites in the town and singled out a number of locations for particular praise, among them the residential area of Tully, Monaghan Shopping Centre, the Coral Sports and Leisure Centre and the access area and car park at Rossmore Forest Park.

The park itself is described in the IBAL report as “a lovely outdoor environment with all features in very good condition.” The full report on Monaghan Town and the reaction to it by Monaghan Tidy Towns is contained in a separate story this week’s Monaghan Town News page. Neighbouring Cavan Town has slipped to 29th place in the league, assigned moderately littered status. For the first time since IBAL began their surveys 20 years ago, no area scrutinised was deemed to be seriously littered. Maynooth in Co Kildare has claimed the top spot in the table.
