MONAGHAN SADDENED AT PASSING OF TOMMY SMYTH

The grief experienced in the offices of the Northern Standard newspaper this week by the passing on Saturday last, November 4 at Cavan General Hospital of Mr Tommy Smyth, 16 Manor Wood, Monaghan has been reflected across the wider Monaghan community. The members of Monaghan Co Council united on Monday in the passing of a vote of sympathy to all of the Smyth family and the staff of the Northern Standard on the death of Tommy, who prior to his retirement a number of years ago was a senior management figure and guiding influence in the family business which ran this newspaper and its former sister company R & S Printers. Mr Smyth’s Funeral Mass took place at St Macartan’s Cathedral in Monaghan Town on Tuesday morning last, followed by burial in St Joseph’s New Cemetery, Latlurcan. Full obituary in next week’s edition.
