LAST DAY ON THE HILL FOR CO MUSEUM STAFF
A significant moment in its own history occurred for Monaghan Co Museum this week when its long-standing home at The Hill in Monaghan Town closed its doors for the last time. The Museum staff will now ramp up preparations for the move early next year to new premises in the Monaghan Peace Campus. The Hill had been the Co Museum’s home for 40 years, ever since they were compelled to move from their original location in Monaghan Courthouse following the fire which devastated the building in the early 1980s. Opening in September 1974, the Museum was the first local authority-run facility of its kind in the country and has long been which current Curator Liam Bradley described this week as “a safe space where people from all backgrounds could come and discover a shared history”.
