CALL FOR URGENT SUPPORTS TO CATER FOR RISING MIGRANT POPULATION IN CLONES
More resources were urgently needed for the Family Resource Centre in Clones to cater for the needs of the towns rising population of migrants, Sinn Féin local public representative Pat Treanor told Monday’s meeting of the Ballybay- Clones Municipal District. Councillor Treanor won support for a motion that the MD write to Tusla, Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Roderic O’- Gorman TD and all Oireachtas members for Cavan/Monaghan seeking their support and intervention. The motion expressed appreciation for “the valuable work being done by the Clones Family Resource Centre” and supported “their plea for extra funding to deal with new and emerging issues in this region”. A recent national newspaper article focusing on the increase in migrant numbers in Clones claimed that over 50% of the town’s population was now comprised of people who had fled the war in Ukraine and others seeking refuge from persecution and displacement in Syria, Egypt, Russia and other countries.
