MONAGHAN CCTV SCHEME FACING FUNDING SHORTFALL

The long-a waited CCTV crime prevention scheme for Monaghan Town is facing a funding shortfall. The project, which recently secured formal final appro val after a pr otracte d process, will cost in the region of €250,000 to implement in full. Monaghan M un ic ipal Dis tric t has €120 ,000 in its coffer s for the scheme, which will see 43 cameras installed at 17 locations in the town area. But hope was expressed at the Municipal District’s meeting on Monday that work on implementing the scheme could commence and proce ed with t he available funding, and the additional finance to complete the project could be put aside or acquired as it progressed.

In his report to Monday’s meeting, Municipal District Co-ordinator Donal McElwain stated that the consultants contract for the works had been extended to design stage, and review of the preliminary design has commenced.
