JPC MEMBER “ALMOST RUN OFF THE ROAD” BY SPEEDING MOTORISTS WHILE ON LIFE-SAVING MISSION

A member of Co Monaghan Joint Policing Committee told a meeting of the body on Tuesday that she was almost run off the road by speeding motorists while she was making a potentially lifesaving journey to transport blood to a hospital. Community representative on the JPC Linda Moore, who is a Controller with the Cú Chulainn Blood Bikes service, said that she was recently on an emergency blood run and was travelling at the speed permissible to the service but on three occasions she was nearly moved off the road by speeding cars.

“At one point I was almost sure I was being pushed off the road,” she stated. “Where emergency vehicles are concerned people should have respect. I had a life-saving blood delivery and I was doing the speed I was allowed to do.”

Serious concerns over speeding issues in various parts of the county have surfaced in local authority meeting chambers and other forums in recent weeks. The Gardaí reported this week that during National Slow Down Day activities on Monday last, a motorist was detected driving at 103 km per hour in the vicinity of the Gransha National School in Clones at school drop-off time.
