CROCUS HOST VICKY PHELAN CAMPAIGN AND PORTRAIT EXHIBITION DEEMED A RESOUNDING SUCCESS
Artist Vincent Devine (pictured above) created the triptych artwork of Vicky Phelan, which was exhibited in St. Joseph’s Pastoral Centre last weekend. The artist is a conceptual painter and described the work as a collaboration between himself and the late CervicalCheck campaigner. The setting is Doonbeg beach in County Clare, Vicky’s favourite place. The three canvas painting represented Vicky’s past, present and future. The portrait is packed with symbolism and Vicky thoroughly endorsed the artist and her portrait. A life-long friend of hers, David Brennan, bought the portrait at a charity auction, with the intention of bringing it on a nationwide tour to encourage people to be proactive in the management of their own health and to keep Vicky’s memory alive. A panel discussion followed on the subject that Vicky brought to national attention. The portrait and panel discussion was brought to Monaghan by CROCUS Cancer Support Centre, and by all accounts, it was a resounding success. There was a capacity crowd at the unveiling on Friday night, which was attended by Vicky’s parents, Gaby and John Kelly. The portrait was also on display until 2pm on Saturday, with the artist and owner reprising their presentation.
