€3 MILLION INVESTMENT IN WALKING AND CYCLING PROJECTS IN CO MONAGHAN ANNOUNCED

Monaghan Co Council is to receive a €3 million share of a major national funding package announced yesterday, Wednesday for the further development of walking and cycling infrastructure in the county. The money is being made available by the National Transport Authority. Among the most significant of the Co Monaghan allocations in monetary terms is €485,000 for the upgrade of the Monaghan Town Greenway.

A footpath project linking Clones and the Tiernahinch Road is earmarked for expenditure of €323,000. €225,000 will be spent on an Active Travel Scheme for the village of Lough Egish. In Carrickmacross, an Active Travel Scheme for the Lurgans area is to receive €155,000. The development of Active Travel links to lands at Rooskey in Monaghan Town has been allocated €115,000. There will be expenditure of €187,191 on the development of the Macartan Road Ulster Canal Greenway link in Monaghan Town.

A range of smaller Active Travel projects throughout the county are also being financed.
