FATALITY AS RESULT OF HOUSE FIRE
A senior spokesperson for Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection confirmed that the service received an emergency callout on Saturday evening, January 14th at 7.53pm, regarding a house fire at a single-storey cottage in the Lisinisky, Cortober area of Bawn. Two fire crews from Ballybay and Carrickmacross attended the scene and extinguished the fire aided by the use of breathing apparatus. Gardaí are investigating the cause of the fire. The deceased man, Sean Geraghty, a native of Oldcastle, Co, Meath, was aged in his sixties and lived alone. He received treatment by National Ambulance Service en-route to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of Sunday morning last. Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection urge the public to ensure that they have a working smoke alarm and an evacuation plan in place in case of emergency.
