SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS FOR CO MONAGHAN EXPECTED FROM LATEST SHARED ISLAND FUNDING ALLOCATIONS

The Cavan/Monaghan constituency will experience significant benefits from projects targeted for over €50 million investment in the latest funding announcement under the Shared Island initiative, Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith told the Northern Standard this week. “The funding announcement sets out an ambitious, cross- Government programme of work, which will bring communities, North and South, together to work on shared strategic priorities to build consensus around a shared future on the island, underpinned by the Good Friday Agreement,” Deputy Smith stated.

“The Shared Island Initiative is proof of Fianna Fail’s commitment to delivering all-island solutions which produce real results and benefits for people on either side of the Border. “Communities across Cavan and Monaghan will benefit from a number of these exciting projects and future rounds of Shared Island funding will also be beneficial for our region.” The allocations, announced by Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD on Monday, include €12 million for the development of a cross-Border innovation hub; a €10 million funding contribution to a second round of the North South Research Programme; €11 million for all-island biodiversity actions on peatlands restoration and biosecurity; €7.6 million…
