MONAGHAN PUBLIC ASKED TO USE MINOR INJURY UNIT AS CAVAN HOSPITAL EXPERIENCES SEVERE DELAYS

Co Monaghan people were this week asked to use the Minor Injury Unit at Monaghan Hospital or avail of the services of their local GPs for non-urgent medical care because of severe delays being experienced at Cavan Hospital’s Emergency Department. The public have been asked not to attend at Cavan Hospital “except in cases of real and genuine emergency”. The hospital has warned that those with non-urgent conditions will experience very long waiting times before being seen.

Cavan Hospital is experiencing an increase in winter flu and Covid-19 presentations. A spokesperson for the hospital said yesterday that all possible measures were being deployed to ease the pressure on the Emergency Department. The public could help by seeking treatment from GPs in non-urgent cases and by attending the Monaghan Minor Injury Unit, the spokesperson said, calling on those eligible for flu and Covid-19 vaccines and boosters who had not yet availed of them to do…
