MENS HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Men’s health was to the forefront last week, thanks to the Crocus Men’s Den, as the Movember campaign enters its last week. Monaghan town was centre stage for a range of events highlighting men’s health. First up was a presentation to staff at the magnificent Combilift global headquarters, where Kevin O’Hagan Irish Cancer Sosiety, Kevin Curran, H.S.E and Martin Maguire from Crocus Men’s Den spoke to a near capacity conference room within the very impressive complex, on the importance of health awareness among men.

Next up was Thursday’s information evening on Men’s Health and Well-being in the Westenra Arms Hotel, where Kevin O’Hagan ICS, spoke on awareness of the prominent male cancers and more importantly, how to prevent them and the Importance of early diagnosis. Kevin’s presentation was very professional and yet entertaining as well. Kevin Curran from the H.S.E spoke on mental health and Well-being, especially in the modern day man and our hectic lifestyles. It was excellent the manner in which the two presentations linked Mental Health and coping with Cancer and not just for the patient but also for family members.

Last, but most definitely not least, was a presentation by Mr. Martin Mc Hugh, a former Leitrim goalkeeper and a 1994 Connaught winner. Manys the battle this man had on the GAA playing field but beating cancer twice was by far his biggest battle. Manys the medal Martin has won but, at the age of 52, he won an intermediate championship…
