CROWDS GENERATE FESTIVE FERVOUR AS MONAGHAN LIGHTS THE WAY TO CHRISTMAS

The first full-scale switch-on ceremony for the Monaghan Town Christmas lighting system since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic brought large crowds to the county capital’s commercial heartland on Sunday afternoon last for an occasion described by Monaghan Municipal District Cathaoirleach Raymond Aughey as “fantastic”. Speaking at Monday’s MD meeting, Councillor Aughey was full of praise for the new lights purchased and erected by the municipal authority throughout all areas of the town, and thanked the organising committee and the local authority staff for their planning and implementation of the switchon ceremony and associated events.

This year’s Church Square Christmas tree was also procured and erected by the Municipal District. The Cathaoirleach extended praise to his predecessor in the position, Councillor David Maxwell, stating that David had been very focused during….
